Understanding the cost

What does an EV charger installation cost?

A useful starting figure is better than a mystery price. But the right quotation depends on the charger and the electrical work needed at your property.

Home installations

Typically around £800–£1,200

That is the indicative range published by Energy Saving Trust for installing a home chargepoint. It is not a UK EV Charging quotation or a fixed package price. More involved work can cost more.

Workplaces and commercial premises

The number of charging bays, available electrical capacity, cable routes, civil works, load management and future expansion all affect the cost. An installer may need a survey before providing a meaningful figure.

What changes a home quote?

The charger itself: features, warranty, cable type and compatibility vary between models. An installer can discuss options such as Ohme, Andersen or myenergi zappi without assuming one brand suits everybody.

Distance and access: longer cable runs, drilling, difficult routes or groundworks may increase labour and materials.

Your electrical supply: the consumer unit, earthing arrangement and existing capacity may require assessment or additional work.

Your parking space: a private driveway is different from shared parking, flats and an on-street arrangement.

Before agreeing to an installation

Ask whether the quotation includes the charger, electrical installation, testing, any additional works, VAT where applicable, warranty and aftercare. Check who is responsible for permissions or network-operator notification.

Some households and workplaces may qualify for government assistance. See our plain-English grants guide and check the official conditions before relying on funding.

UK EV Charging introduces enquiries to installation partners where available. We don't set or guarantee an electrician's final price, and you are free to decline any quotation.
