Government support

Could you qualify for an EV charger grant?

There are UK government schemes that can help some households and workplaces with the cost of installing a chargepoint. Not every homeowner or business qualifies, and funding rules can change.

Renters and flat owners

Up to £500

Eligible renters and people who own and live in a flat may qualify for a contribution of up to 75% of eligible installation costs, capped at £500. Private off-street parking and other conditions apply. Check the official eligibility rules →

Workplace Charging Scheme

Up to £500 per socket

Eligible organisations can receive support for up to 40 chargepoint sockets, subject to scheme rules and a cap of 75% of eligible costs. Check the 2026 workplace rate →

State-funded education

Up to £2,000 per socket

Eligible state-funded schools and other education institutions have a separate workplace scheme, for up to 40 sockets with a 75% cost cap. This applies to applications from 1 April 2026; older approved vouchers may have different values. Read the official education scheme →

What about people who own a house?

Owning and living in a conventional house does not normally qualify you for the renters-and-flat-owners grant. A separate scheme may assist eligible households with only on-street parking that are installing an approved cross-pavement charging solution. Different conditions apply.

What if I am a landlord?

Eligible residential landlords and property managers may qualify under a separate chargepoint grant. The former commercial landlord chargepoint grant closed to new applications on 31 March 2026; do not confuse it with the current residential scheme. Check the rules for the property, applicant and number of sockets before planning work.

Planning charging for a school?

See our school charging guide for the practical site-planning questions, and confirm the correct education funding route before instructing an installer.

How do applications work?

Many schemes require an OZEV-authorised installer and an eligible chargepoint. Some require approval or a voucher before work starts. Please don't order installation on the assumption a grant will be available.
