Your questions, answered.
Which home charger should I consider?
Start with your car's compatibility, where you park, your electricity tariff and whether you prefer an attached cable. Well-known examples include the Andersen A2, Ohme and myenergi zappi. These are examples for comparison, not products UK EV Charging sells or fits. Your installer can check which models suit your property and whether they can supply them.
How much does a home charger installation cost?
Energy Saving Trust gives an indicative UK figure of around £800–£1,200 for a typical home chargepoint installation. Your own quote will depend on the charger, cable route, electrical supply and any additional work. Read our costs guide.
Can I get a government grant?
Some renters, flat owners, eligible households with on-street parking and qualifying workplaces may be eligible for support. Homeowners living in an ordinary house are not usually eligible for the renters-and-flats scheme. Check current schemes and official rules.
Do you install the charger yourselves?
No. UK EV Charging is an independent introduction service. Any physical electrical work and the final quotation are provided by an appropriate installation partner.
How do you choose installers?
We are developing a network and intend to verify relevant electrical registration and qualifications, insurance and experience before recommending a partner. OZEV authorisation is relevant where a grant is involved. We do not claim all installers have been vetted before those checks are complete.
How does your service earn money?
We may receive a referral fee from a partner if an introduction leads to work. The installer will provide the quotation, and you choose whether to proceed.
Where do you cover?
We are starting in the Midlands, particularly Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. We will check availability for your postcode; it is not yet a nationwide installer network.
Can businesses enquire?
Yes. We welcome workplace charging enquiries for staff, visitors and company vehicles. Larger projects may need a site survey and electrical capacity assessment. Read about workplace charging.
Does an enquiry commit me to anything?
No. Asking a question or requesting an introduction does not commit you to an installation or quotation.
What if I don't have a driveway or off-street parking?
Installing a private charger is more complicated where the car parks on a public road. A cable should not simply be laid across a pavement. Some areas have approved cross-pavement solutions and certain households may qualify for funding, but local permission and the exact arrangement must be checked. Read our grants guide.
How long does a home charger installation take?
A straightforward fitting may take part of a working day, but access, cable runs, additional electrical work, appointments or DNO approvals can extend the overall timescale. The installer should give you a specific estimate after assessing the property.
Will I need a new main fuse or consumer unit?
Not necessarily. A competent electrician must assess your supply capacity, earthing, main fuse and consumer unit. Some homes need adjustments or a DNO application; others do not. Do not open electrical equipment yourself. See the installation process.
Who contacts the electricity network operator (DNO)?
The appointed installer should assess whether a pre-installation application or post-installation notification is needed and clarify who completes it. UK EV Charging does not submit DNO applications. Learn about DNO requirements.
Does my charger have to meet smart-charging regulations?
New private domestic and workplace chargepoints sold in Great Britain generally need to comply with the smart-chargepoint rules, with some exceptions. Ask your installer for a suitable compliant model and check the manufacturer's documentation. Read the plain-English explanation.
Can I send pictures for a remote survey?
Yes, you can request a photo or video survey when enquiring. An installation partner can then tell you whether it is suitable and provide a secure way to send the required images. Please do not send sensitive documents through the initial form. See our survey guide.
Are the prices, grants and savings figures guaranteed?
No. They are indicative figures checked on the dates shown and can change. Always confirm current terms with the relevant supplier, government body or installer, and read our figures and liability explanation.
